Webb goes for first win since August 21

Logan Webb is in a rut and needs a win, as well as to help his club continue a late postseason push. They sit at 25-24, the first wild card team ahead of the Phillies, and are 7-3 in their last 10 ballgames. Webb however has not won a game since August 21, he pitched a season-high 7 innings against the DBacks and struck out 8 and walked none. Today he takes on the A's for the 2nd time this season, he suffered the loss in his last meeting when the Giants were roasted 15-3. He pitched just 4 1/3 innings and allowed 3 runs off 3 hits with 5 walks and struck out 5 batters each. San Franciso is 5-5 when Webb takes the mound this season.

Chris Bassett has allowed just 1 run over his last 13 innings (2 starts) with 12 strikeouts and 2 walks. He is 4-2 in 9 starts on the year with a 2.92 ERA totaling 42 strikeouts in that span and today faces the Giants for the first time of the season. The University of Akron alum has gone 0-1 in just 2 starts against the Giants in his career with 9 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings of work while compiling a 3.09 ERA. Bassett took the loss last year against the Giants after they pummeled the A's 10-5 and he struck out 5 over 5 2/3 innings in San Francisco. The A's sit on top of the AL West at 31-19 and the 3rd place team in the American League postseason standings.
