Solano's walk-off HR in 11th extends streak

FINAL LAD 8

SF 10

Donovan Solano has been hearing his name swirl around as the trade deadline approaches on August 31st. He has been a staple everytime he is in the lineup for the Giants. He is hitting .347 while a starter and off the bench he is hitting .500 and at one point had a 17 game hit streak this season. The Giants trailed 3-0 early as they came to bat in the bottom of the 1st inning but after Mike Yastrzemski struck out, Wilmer Flores walked and Evan Longoria singled Brandon Belt came up. Belt smoked a 2-run home run to center field to tie the game at 3-3. The Giants trailed again heading to their bottom half of the 5th inning, but Evan Longoria singled to open it up and Brandon Belt came up again and doubled him in to score to bring the Dodgers to lead 6-4. Longoria added another single in the bottom of the 7th and Belt also singled to set the table for Donovan Solano. He singled to load the bases with 0 outs and Joey Bart grounded into a double play that scored Longoria. Brandon Belt came up and hit his 2nd home run of the game close to where he hit his first one earlier in the game to tie the game at 6-6. Los Angeles took the lead in the top of the 10th but the Giants didn't let that phase them as Joey Bart was placed on 2nd base with the new extra-inning rule. He went to 3rd base on a daring groundout to shortstop Corey Seager and then scored on a Mauricio Dubon infield single that Justin Turner couldn't handle. Mike Yastrzemski started the bottom of the 10th off at 2nd base after the Dodgers again took the lead in the top of the 11th. Evan Longoria singled him in to tie the game at 8-8 and Brandon Belt came up. He was hoping to send the cardboard cutout fans home happy with his 3rd home run of the game but instead struck out. He was the last Giant to reach base 10 consecutive times and the last Giant to do it 10+ times was Barry Bonds who did it 11 times in 2006. Donovan Solano came up and hit his 2nd home run of the year to give the Giants their 7th straight victory. Brandon Crawford, Brandon Belt, and Evan Longoria combined to have 11 hits and 6 RBIs with 2 walks and scored 6 runs on the night. It was Solano's first career walk-off home run. The team was a dreadful 3-22 at the plate with 10 runners left in scoring position. Johnny Cueto started and went 4 innings and allowed 6 runs off 8 hits with 6 strikeouts and gave up 1 walk. The Giants bullpen allowed only 4 hits and 2 runs with 4 walks and struck out 7 batters. The team is 2-2 in extra innings this season, 9-6 at home and 4-4 against the Dodgers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were the latest team to fall to the Giants during their recent winning streak. They did jump out in front in the 1st inning when Corey Seager singled with 1 out and then Justin Turner doubled him to 3rd base. Max Muncy launched his 8th homer of the year to right-center field to give the club a 3-0 lead. Corey Seager joined Muncy in the homer party with his 8th of the season to put the Dodgers ahead 4-3 and then the Dodgers loaded the bases with 1 out. Justin Turner singled, Cody Bellinger doubled, and then Max Muncy walked, but Turner scored on a wild pitch. Joc Pederson doubled in Bellinger as the club extended their lead to 6-3. The team was shocked as the Giants came back to tie the game late but in the top of the 10th Justin Turner started at 2nd base. Cody Bellinger struck out and Max Muncy came up. During his at-bat, Giants catcher Joey Bart tried to nab Justin Turner stealing 3rd base but the ball went into left field and Turner scored on the play to make it a 7-6 game. Catcher Will Smith started on 2nd base in the top of the 11th as the Giants tied it yet again and after two quick outs Turner came up to try to give his team another lead. He did so with a small ground ball to pitcher Tyler Rogers and evaded the tag as Smith scored the go-ahead run. Dodgers reliever Dennis Santana couldn't seal the win and snap their NL West rivals win streak in the bottom of the 11th. Tonight was the first time the Dodgers blew 3 save opportunities in the same game. Julio Urias also pitched just 4 innings and allowed 4 runs off 6 hits with 3 walks and struck out 6 batters on the night. Justin Turner had 4 of the teams 12 hits on the night.
