The San Francisco bats woke up today and had contributions from everyone up and down their lineup. They trailed 1-0 as Evan Longoria roped a 2-run double in the bottom of the 3rd to put the Giants on top 2-1. San Francisco sent 12 men to the plate in the bottom of the 7th which ultimately put them ahead 11-4 behind a Jaylin Davis 2-run triple which was his 2nd base hit of the day. Davis was one of 4 other players with 2 hits on the day as the club was 7-12 with runners in scoring position on the day and left 7 men in scoring position. New Giants pitcher Drew Smyly threw 1.2 innings and allowed 1 hit. with 1 walk and struck out 2 batters.
The Arizona Diamondbacks didn't go down without fight regardless of how big the Giants lead was. The club totaled 5 home runs on the day which accounted for all their runs, Domingo Leyba had a 2-run home run in the top of the 4th to break a 2-2 lead and give Arizona a 4-2 lead. Michael De La Cruz and Yasmani Tomas both went back-to-back with homers of their own to lead off the top of the 8th inning. Drew Ellis added one of his own later in the inning to bring the Giants lead to 11-9. Ellis and Leyba each collected 3 RBIs for the Diamondbacks. Arizona's starter Zac Gallen tossed 2 scoreless innings and struck out 1 batter.
New Giants pitcher Kevin Gausman will make his Giants debut tomorrow. The club takes on Drew Anderson and the White Sox from Glendale.
