Shark set to make Spring Training debut

Jeff Samardzija will take the mound today in his Spring Training debut. The veteran has been asked to be the ace of the rotation after Madison Bumgarner took his talents to Phoenix in free agency. The "Shark" was 11-12 in 32 starts for the Giants last season and compiled a 3.52 ERA totaling 140 strikeouts in 181.1 innings. The University of Notre Dame alum faced the Brewers once last year and took the loss giving up 4 runs in 5 innings. Overall, Samardzija is 3-7 in 27 career games (starter and reliever) against the Brew Crew during the regular season with a 4.44 ERA in just 93.1 innings of work.

Josh Lindblom will take the mound today after spending the last 2 seasons in the Korean Baseball Organization. Lindblom was 20-3 last season for the Doosan Bears and won the MVP at the end of the season. He had a 2.50 ERA in 30 starts for the Bears totaling 189 strikeouts in 194.2 innings, The 32 year old right hander last pitched in the MLB when he was with the Pirates in 2017. He appeared in just 4 games, pitching just 10.1 innings for the Bucs 10 strikeouts as he spent most of his time in the minors. Today he faces the Giants and has faced them 5 times during the regular season with a 6.75 ERA. Lindblom will take on the Giants for the first time since the 2012 season while he was with the Dodgers.
