Jeff Samardzija will finally make his season debut, in front of his own ballpark. The Shark and the Giants face the San Diego Padres tonight at Oracle Park after taking a series split in Los Angeles. Samardzija was 11-12 in 32 starts last year and struck out 140 batters in 180 1/3 innings for the Giants. He had an ERA of 3.52 which is his lowest since he has been with San Francisco. The Notre Dame alum will make his 20th career start against San Diego and was 1-1 in 4 starts against them last year with a 3.33 ERA which included 16 strikeouts and 11 walks.
Zach Davies will make his Padres debut tonight after spending his first 5 MLB seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers. While with the BrewCrew, the 27-year-old right-hander was 43-32 in 111 starts and had 434 strikeouts and a 3.91 ERA. While in Milwaukee he faced the Giants just 4 times and was 0-2 in those 5 seasons and 14 strikeouts in 22 innings. Davies came over to the Padres in a trade that sent himself and Trent Grisham to San Diego for Luis Urias and Eric Lauer.
