SF Giants 2020 Season Preview

Updated: Jul 24

Well, believe it or not, we have baseball this season. A 60-game season nonetheless, but we will have baseball!

Due to COVID-19, the San Francisco Giants Spring Training was cut short but play resumed the last 2 days against the Oakland A's, the club swept their Bay Area rivals.

Below will be the 2020 season preview for the San Francisco Giants including the team's key additions and losses, projected roster, rotation, and schedule prediction.

Gabe Kapler comes over in an attempt to keep the winning ways in San Francisco after Bruce Bochy’s departure. The Giants were 1052-1054 under Bochy with 3 World Series Championships in 13 years.

Kapler went 161-163 in 2 seasons managing the Philadelphia Phillies.

Projected roster:

The Giants roster will have 30 players at the beginning of the shortened season, with a minimum of 25 players. After 2 weeks, the roster will shrink to 28 players, and then another 2 weeks later it'll be down to 26. Teams will have to add a 27th player in the event there are doubleheaders. MLB teams will submit a list of 60 players eligible to play in 2020.

Schedule outlook:

Due to COVID-19 teams will play 60 games, so the Giants will play 40 against their NL West opponents and 20 against their AL West opponents. There is no All-Star game this year.

I predict the Giants will go 31-29 this year and have an overall productive year both offensively and from the mound.

Top prospects Joey Bart and Heliot Ramos are not in the Giants 60 man pool but we should see them very soon.

They open their season tomorrow against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Johnny Cueto will go up against Dustin May at Dodger Stadium.
