SF, Cleveland meet for 2nd game in 4 days

Updated: Mar 9

The San Francisco Giants will face the Indians for the 2nd time in 4 days and look for a win today. The win would split the Spring Training matchups with Cleveland after losing the first game 7-1 last Thursday. Trevor Oaks gets a rare start today after pitching in 2 games already this Spring. He has thrown just 2 innings and has 2 strikeouts, 1 walk and even has a recorded save against the first 7 batters he has faced. The California Baptist University alum came over from the Kansas City Royals waiver wire over the Winter. Oaks is 0-2 in 4 big league games and has made 2 starts with an ERA of 7.24 which includes 10 strikeouts in 13.2 innings but this was in 2018. In those 4 games, one game was a start against the Cleveland Indians, he tossed 4 innings and allowed 3 runs off 2 hits with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts.

Aaron Civale will take the ball for Indians manager Terry Francona this afternoon. The Northeastern University alum will make his 2nd Spring start and look for another win on his ledger. He allowed just 1 walk and struck out 3 batters over a 2 inning span in his start against the Diamondbacks last week. Civale made 10 starts for the Tribe last season and went 3-4 with 46 strikeouts in 57.2 innings with a 2.34 ERA. The Indians were 5-5 when the 24-year-old right-hander took the mound last season including 2-1 at home with a 1.09 ERA in 4 starts.

First pitch is at 1:05pm
