Roster move shake up after deadline

The San Francisco Giants made a series of roster moves after their successful trade deadline.

Tyler Austin was one of the moves, being designated for assignment. He hit .187 with 8 homers and knocked in 20 RBIs. Most of Austin's playing time came in left field as well as first base, but 3 of his 8 homers on the year came in the pinch hit role. Austin came over in a trade with the Twins at the beginning of the year, the Giants sent minor league outfielder Malique Ziegler to Minnesota.

Derreck Rodriguez was optioned back to AAA Sacramento in another move. Rodriguez hasn't quite matched his performance from a year ago, he is 4-6 in 10 starts with an ERA of 5.32 totaling 42 strikeouts. While back with the big league club he made 2 starts going 1-1 with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks, but had a 9.00 ERA.

Steven Duggar will be brought back up to San Francisco after 21 games down in AAA Sacramento. He hit .329 with 3 homers and drove in 13 runs along with 5 doubles in 21 games for the Rivercats.

Sam Selman will replace Alex Dickerson on the roster as he rests a strained oblique that will put him on the 10 day injured list. Selman was with the Sacramento Rivercats and had 3-1 record with a 1.15 ERA totaling 78 strikeouts in just 47 innings.

Alex Dickerson will rest his strained oblique and hope to come back to full strength for the final push of the season. Dickerson was hitting .386 for the Giants with 6 homers and 23 RBIs in just 30 games after being dealt from the Padres for pitcher Franklin Van Gurp.

Scooter Gennett was acquired from the Reds for cash and a player to be named later will also be activated before tonight's game. He appeared in just 21 games for the Reds with 0 homers and 5 RBIs with an average of .217 which included 3 doubles.
