Ramos homers as Giants beat Rockies

Heliot Ramos had his bat wake up before the night was over in Scottsdale this evening. Before that, Pablo Sandoval made his Spring Training debut and had an RBI single in the bottom of the 1st to help the Giants get out to a 1-0 lead. San Francisco trailed 5-1 going into the bottom of the 4th, but Brandon Belt hit his first home run of the Spring to cut into the deficit. Chris Shaw reached on a 1 out error and after a Kean Wong line out, Billy Hamilton doubled Shaw to 3rd with 2 outs. Sean Roby doubled in both runners to make it a 5-4 game and then Heliot Ramos singled him in to tie the ballgame. Chris Shaw gave the Giants a 6-5 lead after singled in Joey Bart in the bottom of the 5th and Billy Hamilton tripled and Sean Roby singled him to extend their lead to 7-5. Heliot Ramos came up and homered to left center for his first home run in a Giants uniform to put the game at 9-5. Johnny Cueto pitched 2 scoreless while allowing 1 hit. struck out 1 batter and walked 1 batter. The Giants had 4 players who had at least 2 of their 11 hits on the evening.

The Colorado Rockies trailed early before their explosive top of the 5th inning. Daniel Murphy singled to open the inning and Ryan McMahon walked as Sam Hilliard stepped up. He singled to right field to load the bases with no outs with speedster Garrett Hampson coming to the plate. He was called out on strikes, but Yonathan Daza singled in Murphy to tie the game at 1-1. Catcher Tony Walters grounded out but McMahon scored on the playing making it a 2-1 game. Dom Nunez hit a ball over the right field fence to extend the Rockies lead to 5-1 before Raimel Tapia grounded out to end the inning. The Rockies were just 3-11 with 5 runners left in scoring position on the night. Starter Antonio Senzatela tossed 3 innings of 2 hit ball, he allowed 1 run with 4 strikeouts and gave up 1 walk.

The Giants will host Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim tomorrow. Drew Smyly will pitch against Dylan Bundy.
