Panik DFA'd, SF recalls Menez and Jurez, option Selman

The San Francisco Giants have designated former first round pick 2nd baseman Joe Panik for assignment. Panik's DFA comes as a no surprise to Giants fans after appearing in just 103 games and hit .271 with 3 HRs and 27 RBIs but struck out 38 times and walked 36 times. Panik had his playing time slowly regress after Donovan Solano became a better hitter with runners in scoring position (BA .522) and with the Giants acquisition of Scooter Gennett and Mauricio Dubon.

Conner Menez joins the club and will make the start tonight for his 2nd big league start since July 21st. He is 1-0 in 3 starts since being optioned with a 3.80 ERA totaling 19 strikeouts and 0 walks in Sacramento.

Reliever Williams Jerez also rejoins the club after spending 2 weeks down with the Sacramento Rivercats. Jerez is 1-0 in 2 games with the Giants this year with 2 strikeouts in 3 innings of work while having a 3.00 ERA. While with AAA Sacramento, Jerez was 1-0 in 6 games for the Cats totaling 5 strikeouts a 2-run homer over a 5 inning stretch.

Sam Selman will head back to AAA Sacramento after appearing in 4 games with the club, recording 4 strikeouts in 4 innings for the Giants with a 6.75 ERA
