More sloppy defense leads to loss



The San Francisco Giants defensive cues cost them another loss, this time to the Houston Astros. The Giants defense committed 3 more errors and now have 21 to lead all Major League Baseball. Donovan Solano broke up Lance McCullers Jr no hit bid with his 8th double on the year, it also extended his hit streak to 15 games. Austin Slater homered in th top of the 8th to cut into the Astros 6-1 lead. Mike Yastrzemski walked and was pushed to 3rd base on an Alex Dickerson single as Donovan Solano stepped up. Solano roped his 2nd double of the game to score Yastrzemski. After two fly outs, Brandon Crawford finally recorded his first 2 RBIs on the season to bring the game to 6-4. For Crawford, it was his first hit in his last 4 games dating back to last week. Starter Logan Webb pitched 3 1/3 innings with 3 strikeouts and walked 1 batter with 5 runs allowed (2 earned) off 4 hits.

Lance McCullers Jr was dealing and cruising through the Giants lineup. He allolwed just 1 hit and struck out 5 batters without a walk issued over 7 1/3 innings of work. Yuli Gurriel doubled to lead off the bottom of the 2nd and after a wild pitch by Giants pitcher Logan Webb, Carlos Correa singled Gurriel in. Jose Altuve singled with 1 out in the bottom of the 3rd and after Josh Reddick reached by a catchers interference, Alex Bregman walked to load the bases. Michael Bradley smoked a ground-rule double and then Yuli Gurriel reached by a fielders choice as the Astros went up 4-0. Carlos Correa grounded into an RBI ground out to cap a 5-run inning on Giants starter Logan Webb. Martin Maldonado homered for the first time this year to extend Houston's lead to 6-0, it was his first dinger since last season on September 11 against Oakland.
