Joseph joins Giants after A's DFA him

The San Francisco Giants claimed infielder Corban Joseph off the Oakland A's waiver wire. He originally signed with the Orioles in the Winter but the A's claimed him off their waivers and hit .189 in 40 plate appearances with 1 homer and 5 RBIs including 2 doubles this year. He has just 1 fielding error in 97 innings of work on defense with 5 double plays turned and 20 assists.

The 30 year old Tennessee native was first drafted by the New York Yankees in the 2008 Amateur Draft. San Francisco will workout Joseph at 3rd base so Evan Longoria can get rest as the Giants announced that Pablo Sandoval will have season ending Tommy John surgery on his elbow.
