Trevor Cahill and the Giants snapped their 5 game losing streak today. Cahill pitched just 4 innings but allowed 1 run off 4 hits with 1 walk and struck out 4 batters. Mike Yastrzemski helped the Giants go out in front early with his first career leadoff home run. Evan Longoria walked in the top of the 2nd inning and Pablo Sandoval hit his first home run of the year to make it a 3-1 game. It was the Panda's first home run since last year against the Phillies on July 31st. Yastrzemski walked in his 2nd at-bat in the top of the 3rd but was out on an Alex Dickerson force out, Donovan Solano also grounded out but Dickerson went to 2nd on the play as Brandon Belt drove him in with a single to add to their lead. Solano singled to open the top of the 5th and after Evan Longoria was hit by a pitch, Brandon Crawford roped a 2-run double extending their lead to 6-1. Belt and Longoria hit back to back doubles with 2 outs in the top of the 9th then Pablo Sandoval doubled in Longoria to make it an 8-1 game. Three Giants players had 2 hits on the day as they finished with 10 and went 4-12 with 8 runners left in scoring position. The Giants bullpen allowed just 1 run off 1 hit with a pair of walks and a strikeout on the day.
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim ace Dylan Bundy came into the game with a 1.57 ERA, was done after 4 innings. He allowed 4 runs off 4 hits with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts, he gave up 2 home runs on the afternoon. Tommy La Stella hit a solo shot in the bottom of the 1st inning to tie the game at 1-1 for his 2nd home run in 2 days. The Angels offense was quieted by Giants pitching as they had just 4 hits after the homer including a double by left fielder Brian Goodwin. Mike Trout walked in the bottom of the 9th and went to 2nd on an Anthony Rendon single. Trout and Rendon both advanced a base after Giants pitcher Shaun Anderson threw a wild pitch and Shohei Otani grounded out to score Trout, but it was a dent in the Giants 8-2 lead. The club was 0-7 with 5 runners left in scoring position today. Reliever Jaime Barria pitched 41/3 innings out of the pen and allowed 2 runs off 4 hits with a walk and 4 strikeouts. David Fletcher snapped his 16 game hit streak.
