Giants visit Seattle for 2 game series

The Giants may have swept the Mariners last week, but after that they were swept by the Padres. They can get back on the winning swing of things with a win today and help propel them into the postseason with just 11 games left of the season. The Giants currently sit in 8th place in the postseason standings and as a 2nd wild card team to the Phillies. Tyler Anderson will make the start today and the 2nd against the Mariners in the last week. He pitched 6 shutout innings and allowed 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and walked 1 batter in the Giants 10-1 win. This is Anderson's first start in Seattle of his career and on the road he has a 7-13 record in 37 starts. He has a career road ERA of 5.56 with 172 strikeouts in 192 2/3 innings over 38 games.

Ljay Newsome will also make his 2nd start against the Giants in the last week. He threw just 1 1/3 innings and allowed 1 run off 2 hits with a pair of strikeouts and 0 walks Newsome left the game after taking a line drive off his wrist. He homes for a better result as the club is winless when he takes the mound in his 2 starts, he is also winless in his 3 games this season. Newsome has spent most of his time in the Mariners minor league system and has a career record of 30-32 in 99 games (91 starts) with 473 strikeouts and a 4.11 ERA. The Mariners sit at 22-26 on the year and are 12-9 at home.
