Alex Dickerson was in the lineup after a false positive COVID-19 test was fake. Dickerson singled in the first inning and Brandon Crawford doubled in the top of the 5th for the Giants only hits in the game, they also reached base on a walk. Johnny Cueto pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed 6 runs (4 earned) with 3 walks and struck out 2 batters. The Giants offense struck out 7 times including twice from Evan Longoria.
The San Diego Padres are good man -- really good! Mike Clevinger made his 3rd Padres start since being traded and dominated. He pitched a 2 hit shutout and struck out 7 batters with 1 walk allowed. Austin Nola singled with 1 out in the bottom of the 2nd inning and then after Wil Myers flew out up came Jake Cronenworth. He doubled Nola to 3rd and then Greg Garcia singled in both runners to make it a 2-0 game. Trent Grisham helped the Padres continue adding to their lead with a leadoff double and went to 3rd base on a Manny Machado 1 out single. Machado stole 2nd base for his 5th of the year and then Mitch Moreland walked to load the bases. Austin Nola popped out in the infield for an infield fly rule but Wil Myers picked him up with a 2-run single extending their lead to 4-0. Nola walked in the bottom of the 6th to start another rally and Jake Cronenworth walked after a Wil Myers ground out. Greg Garcia reached on a fielder's choice as Nola scored making it a 5-0 game. Jurickson Profar singled in Cronenworth to add another insurance run at 6-0. Profar had 2 of the teams 8 hits as they went 4-8 with 8 runners left in scoring position.
The San Francisco Giants were swept in the doubleheader as well as this 3 game series against the Padres.They had a scoring oppurtunity early in the top of the 1st after 2 quick outs as Wilmer Flores and Brandon Belt both walked, but Evan Longoria struck out to end the inning. Brandon Crawford singled with 1 out in the top of the 2nd and went to 2nd base after Joey Bart was hit by a pitch. Mauricio Dubon struck out and then Mike Yastrzemski doubled in Crawford for a quick 1-0 lead. Again the Giants offense was held to just 3 hits and went 1-4 with 5 runners left in scoring position. Starter Logan Webb tossed 4 innings and allowed 1 run off 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and walked 1 batter.
The San Diego Padres have now won 7 in a row, 20 of their last 25 games, and have the 3rd best record in all baseball. Wil Myers tied the game with one swing of the bat with his 12th home run of the year in the bottom of the 2nd to tie the game at 1-1. Jake Cronenworth and Jason Castro both walked to lead off the bottom of the 5th and Jurickson Profar singled in Cronenworth to make it a 2-1 game. Trent Grisham slapped a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners and then Fernando Tatis Jr reached on a fielder's choice but Castro was out at home. Manny Machado singled in Profar to put the Padres lead at 3-1. Machado had 2 of the teams 6 hits in game 2 of the doubleheader. Starter Garrett Richards pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed 1 run off 2 hits with 2 walks and struck out 3 batters.
