Giants routed by Angels behind 8-run 3rd

San Francisco had their bats silenced today after having 2 split squad games yesterday and winning them both, The club was held hit-less until the bottom of the 4th when Wilmer Flores singled but was stranded along with Austin Slater, who also singled. Donovan Solano singled with 1 out in the bottom of the 5th and then went to 3rd on a Rob Brantly single. Jamie Westbrook sacrificed in Solano but the Giants made a dent in the Angels already 8-1 lead. Jalen Miller hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 8th inning for his first homer of the Spring. San Francisco was 0-6 with 6 runners left in scoring position on the day and Wilmer Flores had 2 of their 8 hits. Starter Drew Smyly pitched another 2 scoreless innings with 1 hit allowed along with 2 strikeouts.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim used an 8-run 3rd inning to make quick work of the Giants today. The inning was highlighted by a 2-run double by Justin Upton, a 3-run homer by Jason Castro, a 2-run homer by Matt Thaiss and a run scoring double by David Fletcher. Fletcher surprisingly led the team with 2 of their 15 hits on the afternoon as 3 other players had at least 2 RBIs. Dylan Bundy improved to 2-0 on the Spring going 2 innings and didn't allow a single base runner and had 3 strikeouts.

The Giants head back to Peoria to play the Padres tomorrow. Kevin Gausman will take the mound against Joey Lucchesi.
