Giants route Mariners to get back on track

The Giants may have been the away team tonight but they pulled out a win and got back to their winning ways. Drew Smyly made his first start in 6 weeks but pitched just 3 2/3 innings with 3 runs allowed off 4 hits with 8 strikeouts and walked 1 batter. Trevor Cahill picked up the win out of the pen, going 2 scoreless innings with 2 hits and 3 strikeouts. Mike Yastrzemski walked to open the ballgame and Alex Dickerson singled to bring up Wilmer Flores. Flores grounded into a fielders choice but after a Brandon Belt pop out, Donovan Solano singled to left field to make it a 1-0 game. Brandon Crawford roped his 8th double of the season to left field to begin the top of the 2nd and then scored on a Mauricio Dubon singled but Dubon was out stretching his single into a double. Alex Dickerson kept the bats going with a double leading off the top of the 3rd and Brandon Belt left the yard with his 8th home run of the year to make it a 4-0 game. Evan Longoria also went yard after a Donovan Solano fly out to push their lead to 5-0. The Giants kept their offensive production strong tonight after a Mauricio Dubon walk in the top of the 4th, Mike Yastrzemski doubled him in and went to 3rd on a wild pitch by Erik Swanson. Alex Dickerson singled in Yastrzemski and the Giants padded their lead to 7-0 on the lead. The Giants loaded the bases with singles from Brandon Belt and Donovan Solano with 1 out with Evan Longoria at the plate. Alex Dickerson scored off a wild pitch by Casey Sadler and the Giants were up 8-0. Brandon Crawford took his turn to round the bases with his 5th home run of the year extending their lead to 9-3. Crawford and Alex Dickerson each had 3 hits on the night with Brandon Belt, Evan Longoria and Donovan Solano collected 2 apiece. The Giants finished with 15 hits total with 7 extra-base hits going 5-13 with 8 runners left in scoring position. San Francisco pitching had 8 walks on the night with 17 strikeouts, they also hit 2 batters.


The Seattle Mariners played the home team tonight as the series shifted to San Francisco due to bad air quality. They trailed 8-0 going into the bottom fo the 4th when Kyle Lewis struck out but the other Kyle, Kyle Seager walked as Ty France came up. France singled to put Seager on 2nd base as Luis Torrens came up hungry to get himself a hit. Torres doubled in Seager to make it an 8-1 ballgame. Evan White struck out as Tim Lopes walked to load the bases for Phillip Ervin, who coaxed a walk to plate a run but the game was still out of reach at 8-2. JP Crawford also walked in a run as the Mariners rounded the bases 1 turn making another small dent in the Giants sizeable lead. Lijay Newsome pitched 3 innings and allowed 5 runs off 8 hits with a walk and strikeout each. Kyle Lewis had 3 of the clubs 6 hits on the night as they went just 1-10 with 11 runners left in scoring position. Dylan Moore took a 99 MPH fastball to the helmet in the bottom of the 7th inning but got up and went to 1st base unscathed.
