The San Franciso Giants are playing some of their best baseball and at a critical time of the season. The scene at Oracle Park was eery as the state of California is battling some tough wildfires. The Giants were held without a hit going into the bottom of the 3rd when both Joey Bart and Brandon Crawford both singled to lead off the inning. Seattle pitcher Nick Margevicius had a wild pitch that moved the runners up a base. Mauricio Dubon then struck out but Mike Yastrzemski took his turn to get the Giants on the board. He launched his MLB leading 8th home run with 2 strikes to the right-field arcade seats to give the club a 3-0 lead. The 3-run home run was their 13th of the season, they had 13 the last 3 years but tonight's was through 43 games. It was also his 30th career home run in which it took him 151 games, it took his grandfather Carl 303 games. The Giants have hit 34 home runs in 23 games at home this year, they had 63 in 81 games last year at Oracle Park. Wilmer Flores doubled to lead off the bottom of the 4th inning and went to 3rd on a Brandon Belt ground out, Evan Longoria singled in Flores to make it a 4-0 game. Darin Ruf also led off the bottom of the 5th off with a double and Wilmer Flores was intentionally walked and Brandon Belt walked to load the bases. Evan Longoria singled in both Ruf and Flores to pad their lead to 6-0 and then Joey Bart singled in Belt extending their lead to 7-0. The Giants continued their hitting barrage when Mauricio Dubon and Mike Yastrzemski singled opening the bottom of the 6th but Donovan Solano grounded into a force play as Dubon was out at 3rd base. Alex Dickerson pinch hit for Darin Ruf and singled in Yastrzemski and Solano went to 2nd base. Luis Alexander Basabe pinch ran for Dickerson and Wilmer Flores doubled in Solano. Basabe scored on a Brandon Belt ground out as San Francisco went up 10-0. The Giants have scored 6+ runs at home for 13 times this season, they did it 12 times last year. It is also the 4th time they have scored 10+ runs this season and 3rd time at home. Starter Tyler Anderson got the win after 6 shutout innings and allowed 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and walked 1 batter. The Giants 5 players had 2 hits apiece as they finished with 13 on the night.
The Seattle Mariners came into this series winners of 6 games in a row and have now been swept in this 2-game series. The club didn't really have any chances to score off Giants pitching until they had the bases loaded with 2 outs in the top of the 7th. Luis Torrens walked, Jose Marmolejos singled and Phillip Ervin also walked, but JP Crawford lined out to end the threat. The Mariners had just 5 hits with 2 extra-base hits, doubles by Ty France and Dylan Moore. Moore went to 3rd on a ground out and then scored on a Kyle Seager sacrifice fly to make a dent in the Giants 10-1 lead. Nick Margevicius tossed just 4 2/3 innings with 7 runs allowed off 6 hits with 3 walks and struck out 6 batters.
