Giants roll past Diamondbacks

Jeff Samardzija recorded his first Spring Training win after the Giants dismantled the Diamondbacks today. Samardzija pitched 3 innings of 1 run ball, he allowed 3 hits with 1 walk and strikeout each. Hunter Pence made his Giants return a memorable one, as he got the club on the board with an RBi single to give the Giants a 1-0 lead. Zach Green added a 3-run home run in the next inning to push the clubs lead to 4-1 as Austin Slater, Mauricio Dubon and Joey Rickard each had 2 hits on the day.

Arizona's bats were held to just 5 hits on the day but John Hicks helped the club avoid being shutout. He homered off Samardzija in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game at 1-1 with his first Spring Training homer. Starter Merrill Kelly was taken out of the game after 2.2 innings while allowing 1 run off 3 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts on the day. The Diamondbacks were 0-8 with 7 runners left in scoring position.

San Francisco will host their 2010 World Series opponent Texas Rangers tomorrow with Logan Webb going against Jordan Lyles.
