Giants/Padres ready for double dip

GAME 1 preview

The San Francisco Giants are close to the playoffs but the red hot Padres are in their way. Today the Giants will play a doubleheader against their NL West foes and inch closer to postseason play. Tyler Anderson will face San Diego for a 2nd time today and look for a different outcome. He had a no-decision in the July 29th game going 3 2/3 shutout innings with 4 hits and struck out 2 while walking 2 in the Giants 7-6 win. Anderson took home the win in his last outing against the A's as the Giants rolled to a 14-2 victory.

Chris Paddack will stand in the Giants way as he looks for his 5th victory this season. Paddack is 0-0 in 2 starts this year vs the Giants and has 9 strikeouts and a 3.86 ERA. The Cedar Park Texas native is 1-0 in 3 career starts at Oracle Park with a 3.18 ERA in just 17 innings of work and is 1-2 away from Petco Park this year. The Padres will hope to get a win so they can ruin the Giants postseason plans.

GAME 2 preview

Jeff Samardzija will come off the injured list and make his first start since August 7th against the Dodgers.He will get the start of the 2nd game of the doublehead and the Notre Dame alum had been resting a shoulder impengement that limited him to just 3 starts and was 0-2. He had just 5 strikeouts in 13 2/3 innings with a 9.88 ERA and made just 1 start against the Padres this year. He took the loss going 4 innings and allowed 5 runs off 5 hits with a walk and strikeout each. In his career, the Shark is 9-5 in 22 games (20 starts) with 117 strikeouts and a 3.82 ERA.

Dinelson Lamet will get the ball of the 2nd game in the doubleheader today against the Giants. He is 3-1 on the season in 11 starts with 89 strikeouts in 65 1/3 innings of work on the year. Today he will take on the Giants for the 2nd time and didn't factor in a decision his last time. He pitched 5 innings of 1 run ball off 4 hits with 7 strikeouts and 0 walks. The Dominican Repubic native has 38 strikouts in his last 5 starts and is just 1-0 with 4 no decisions.
