Giants, Padres enter pivotal weekend series

The San Francisco Giants have now won 15 out of their last 20 games after last night's win over Seattle. Tonight they visit San Diego as a part of a 4-game weekend series and the Giants could gain some ground even if they take 3 out 4. Trevor Cahill will get the nod in the series opener this evening. Cahill has been bothered by hip discomfort each of his last 2 starts going a total of 8 2/3 innings pitched with a 3.29 ERA totaling 12 strikeouts. Cahill has yet to factor in a decision in all of his 5 starts this year and has pitched past the 5 inning mark just one time. He is 2-4 against the Padres in his career which includes 9 starts in 12 total appearances with 54 strikeouts and a 3.54 ERA. The Giants are going for their 6th straight win tonight.

Chris Paddack will take the ball and try to continue the Padres 4 game winning streak and halt the Giants winning streak. Paddack is 3-4 in 9 starts for San Diego this season and has 48 strikeouts in 47 1/3 innings with a 4.75 ERA. San Diego is 4-5 when the 24-year old takes the mound this season including a 3-3 month of August. Paddack has faced the Giants just once this season, he took a no-decision but the Padres dropped the game 7-6 back in late July. He threw 5 innings and allowed 2 runs off 6 hits with 6 strikeouts and walked nobody as the Padres blew a 6-2 lead. Mike Strahm coughed up a walk-off home run to Mike Yastrzemski, who homered twice in the game.

First pitch is at 6:10 pm
