The Giants have struck a deal to acquire minor league outfielder Alex Dickerson from the San Diego Padres, in return the Giants sent right hander Franklin Van Gurp.
Alex Dickerson was drafted by the Nationals in 2008 out of the University of Indiana Bloomington but didn't sign and then was drafted by the Pirates in 2011. Dickerson signed and was promoted as high as AA for the Pirates farm system and hit 33 home runs in 3 years with 177 RBIs totaling 7 triples and 83 doubles and a .289 batting average. He was traded to the Padres in 2013 for Jaff Decker and Miles Mikolas. While with San Diego he hit .250 with 10 homers and 39 RBIs he took 2017 and 2018 off to recover from a Tommy John surgery.
Dickerson will report to AAA Sacramento
Franklin Van Gurp was drafted by the Giants in the 25th round of the 2017 draft out of Philipsburg, Saint Martin. He has been in AA RIchmond with a 9.00 ERA through 2 games and is 0-1. He was recently promoted and has pitched just 5 innings with 9 strikeouts and has 2 walks. His overall minor league record is 12-2 with a 3.43 ERA in 68 games (1 start) and has 174 strikeouts including 55 walks. Batters were hitting just .186 off him with only 13 home runs allowed in his career.
