The San Francisco Giants had to win their ballgame as the Cardinals did them a favor by beating the Brewers just minutes before the Giants lost. San Francisco trailed 1-0 after the top of the 2nd but Mauricio Dubon tied it at 1-1 with a solo shot to right field for his 4th home run of the season. The club trailed 5-1 going into the later frames and Evan Longoria singled to open the bottom of the 7th and after a Mauricio Dubon strikeout, Brandon Crawford stepped up. He crushed his 8th home run of the year to the right-center field seats to inch closer to the Padres lead. Joey Bart and Mike Yastrzemski both walked but Donovan Solano struck out to end the inning. Wilmer Flores went yard to open the bottom of the 8th and the Giants were within 1 run of the Padres but 5 of their last 6 outs of the game were via the strikeout. Yastrzemski had 2 of the clubs 6 total hits on the day and they were 0-3 with 6 runners left in scoring position. The Giants finish the season at 29-31 and won't be going to the playoffs this season. Adams came up because the needed Austin Nola to catch after Jason Castro left with an injury, as they had to get rid of their designated hitter. Profar came up and singled to left field and then Jorge Mateo hit a ground-rule double to extend the Padres lead to 3-1. Greg Garcia sacrificed home a run with a pop up to left field as Profar crossed the plate then Wil Myers also hit a ground-rule double that scored Mateo and the Padres went up 5-1. The Padres finished with 8 hits and 2 each from Myers, Profar, and Moreland as the club went 3-8 with 8 runners left in scoring position. Adrian Morejon tossed 2 2/3 innings with 1 run off 3 hits with 4 strikeouts. San Diego will play the Cardinals in the first round of the playoffs starting Wednesday.
