Giants fall as playoff chances loom

SF 2

The Giants playoff hopes and aspirations are slipping through their hands and after tonight's loss, aren't in the postseason race. Luckily they still have 7 games left to make some even year magic happen. They trailed 7-0 before Luis Alexander Basabe walked with 1 out in the bottom of the 5th and went to 3rd on an Alex Dickerson double. Brandon Belt struck out but Donovan Solano singled in Basabe to help the Giants from being shutout. Alex Dickerson homered to center field to make it a 7-2 game, but that was the only offense the club had. Dickerson had 3 of their 6 hits, in which the first 3 hitters of the Giants lineup tonight accounted for their hits. Dickerson had 3, Belt had 1 and Solano had 2 and the rest of the team was 0-18 with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks. It was Dickerson’s first game back since going on paternity leave. He welcomed a baby boy, Levi this morning. Johnny Cueto was handed the loss going 4 1/3 innings with 7 runs off 8 hits with 4 strikeouts and walked 3 batters.

The Colorado Rockies played spoiler as they doomed the Giants playoff chances with a thumping of a win tonight. Former Giant Kevin Pillar and Charlie Blackmon both singled with 1 out in the top of the 1st and then after Trevor Story struck out up came Josh Fuentes. Fuentes singled in Pillar and Ryan McMahon singled in Blackmon to make it a 2-0 game. Pillar came up swinging in the top of the 3rd inning with a solo shot to left-center for his 6th home run of the year to pad the Rockies lead to 3-0. Sam Hilliard doubled opening up the top of the 4th and went to 3rd base on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Hampson. Hilliard then scored on a Johnny Cueto balk adding on to their lead. Trevor Story walked to lead off the top of the 5th inning and Josh Fuentes singled with 1 out and Story went to 3rd base. Ryan McMahon walked to put Fuentes on 2nd base then Elias Diaz singled in Story and Fuentes to make it a 6-0 game. Sam Hilliard struck out but Garrett Hampson knocked an RBI single to left field to extend the onslaught to 7-0. Pillar and Fuentes had 2 of the teams 9 hits on the night. German Marquez tossed 6 innings of 1 run ball off 6 hits with 3 strikeouts and walked 1 batter.
