The San Francisco Giants claimed reliever Ricardo Pinto off of the Tampa Bay Rays waiver wire. Pinto is a 25 year old right hander from Valenzuela and was first signed by the Phillies in 2011. He appeared in 25 games for the Phillies in 2017 and went 1-2 with 25 strikeouts in 29.2 innings while having a 7.89 ERA. Pinto was then traded to the White Sox in 2018 but elected free agency and signed with Tampa Bay in January 2019. The right hander appeared in just 2 games for the Rays this year and allowed 4 runs off 4 hits in 2.1 innings with no strikeouts and 2 walks.
The Giants announced that Trevor Gott will finish the season on the injured list and may need Tommy John surgery. Gott was 7-0 in 50 games out of the Giants bullpen with 1 save and a 4.44 ERA totaling 57 strikeouts in 52.2 innings of work. Gott going on the IL will create a roster spot for Pinto.
