The San Francisco Giants claimed pitcher Andrew Moore off of the Tampa Bay Rays waiver wire and designated infielder Breyvic Valera to open a roster spot.
Valera was on of the first roster moves Farhan Zaidi made once he was hired by the San Francisco Giants ina trade with the Baltimore Orioles. The Giants sent cash considerations to finish the deal. He played 24 games for the AAA Sacramento Rivercats and had 74 at bats, he hit .257 with just 1 home run and collected 7 RBIs but walked 16 times and struck out 10 times.
Moore comes to the Giants after first being drafted by the Seattle Mariners back in 2015 and then was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018. He and Tommy Romero were shipped to Tampa for Alex Colome, former Giant Denard Span and cash.
He made 9 starts for the Mariners in 2017 with a record of 1-5 totalling 31 strikeouts and 8 walks with a 5.34 ERA in 59 innings of work. The Oregon State alum had been in the Minors at AAA Durham and was 0-2 in 5 starts 10 walks and 10 strikeouts a piece but a high ERA of 13.50 in 17.1 innings. Moore will report to the Giants AA affiliate Richmond Squirrels.
