Giants can't back Gausman as LA rolls

SF 2

Kevin Gausman did another spectacular job as a member of the Giants rotation, but the bullpen blew the lead late. Gausman threw 6 1/3 innings and allowed 1 run off 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and walked nobody. The Giants and Dodgers were tied at 0-0 and the Giants hadn't recorded hit until the top of the 5th inning. Pablo Sandoval walked and after Brandon Crawford flew out, Mike Yastrzemski walked to the plate. Yastrzemski not only got the Giants a lead with a single but also got the team a hit that scored 2 runs and put San Francisco on top 2-0. Donovan Solano singled in the top of the 8th inning to push his hitting streak to 14 games, which is the longest since Angel Pagan had a 14 game hit streak in 2016. Solano's single was just the 2nd hit for the club on the day as they went 1-6 with 5 men left in scoring position.

The Dodgers offense was just as bad as the Giants but were happy once Gausman departed the game. After Mookie Betts flew out, Cody Bellinger singled and Justin Turner singled him to 2nd base. Max Muncy was called out on strikes as AJ Pollock cleared the bases with a 3-2 fastball by Giants reliever Tyler Rogers. The homer was the 4th of the season for Pollock and gave the Dodgers a 3-2 lead. Will Smith walked to open the bottom of the 8th and after a Enrique Hernandez double Joc Pederson stepped into the batters box. Pederson flew out but Mookie Betts picked up Pederson with a 3-run home run t push their lead to 6-2. Dodgers starter Walker Buehler struck out 6 and walked 4 batters over 5 2/3 innings with 2 runs allowed off 1 hit on the day.
