Gausman looks to continue hot Spring

Updated: Mar 12, 2020

Kevin Gausman has been a bright spot for the Giants as their final roster spots get filled and their rotation becomes finalized. Gausman hasn't received a victory in 3 starts this Spring but has allowed just 1 run off 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and just a walked batter. He has faced 24 batters and has a WHIP of 0.43 in 7 innings. Gausman takes on the Rangers today, a team in which he is 3-2 in 7 games (6 starts) and has an ERA of 2.83 totaling 38 strikeouts. While in a Baltimore Orioles uniform during the 2017 season, he last faced Texas tossing 8.2 shutout innings with 8 strikeouts in an 8-7 Orioles win.

Luke Farrell was going to make the start today but with the rain, manager Chris Woodward doesn't want to risk any injuries. In his place will be 25-year-old left-hander Joe Palumbo, who was drafted by Texas in the 30th round of the 2013 June Amateur draft. Palumbo made his MLB debut last season and went 0-3 in 4 starts (7 games) with a 9.18 ERA but struck out 21 batters in 16.2 innings. As a minor leaguer, the Holbrook, New York native is 21-17 in 104 games (53 starts) with an ERA of 2.72 totaling 425 strikeouts in 357 innings of work.

First pitch is at 1:05pm
