Game 1 of Bay Bridge Series goes to Cueto

Johnny Cueto will take the ball for Gabe Kapler in the Bay Bridge series against the A's. Cueto is coming off one of his best outings in recent years, going 5 2/3 innings, allowed 2 hits and 4 runs while walking and striking out 3 batters each. He takes on Oakland tonight for just the 3rd time in his career and is 1-0 in the previous 2 with a 2.57 ERA. Cueto last faced the A's in 2018, going 7 innings and allowed 4 runs off 6 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks. in the Giants 6-5 loss. Frankie Montas was a late scratch prior to tonight’s game with upper back tightness. He is being replaced by 22 year old left hander Jesus Lazardo. The Peruvian native has just 10 games logged in his short career and has never faced the Giants. He is 1-0 this year in 4 games including 2 starts with a 2.60 ERA.
