Cueto takes the mound against Angels

Well, the Giants just played the Angels in Anaheim and are now going to face them at home for another 2 game series. Johnny Cueto will take the mound in the series opener in San Francisco. Cueto pitched 7 innings and allowed 2 runs off 3 hits with 5 strikeouts and walked 2 batters against the A's last week. He will make his 4th career start against the Angels and is 2-0 with a 0.86 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 21 innings. The last he faced the Angels was while with the Royals just before he got traded to the Reds in 2015. He was traded to the Reds for Brandon Finnegan, Josh Reed, and Cody Lamb. In that start, Cueto threw 8 innings and allowed just 1 run off 8 hits with 4 strikeouts. The lone run came from a solo shot off the bat of Albert Pujols, who is still 1 home run shy of tying Willie Mays for 5th on the all-time list.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will send out a Sandoval of their own today, Patrick Sandoval that is. The Mission Viejo native will make his first career start against the Giants and has only faced them during Spring Training. Sandoval is 0-2 in 3 starts this year totaling 13 strikeouts with a 3.94 ERA. He has never won a decision in his short 2-year career in the Majors and is 0-4 in front of his home crowd (or cutouts) in his career with a 3.90 ERA in 7 starts. The 23-year-old left-hander has only faced only Hunter Pence and has struck him out twice in the two times he has faced him.

First pitch is at 6:45 pm
