Cueto takes ball as Giants go for series win

Johnny Cueto will take the ball in the series finale against the Diamondbacks before they come to San Francisco next week. It is his first time facing his NL West foe on the year and could be the last if the Giants deal him as today is the day before the trade deadline. Cueto last faced Arizona in 2017 and was 2-0 in 2 starts and had a 4.91 ERA with 13 strikeouts in just 11 innings off the mound. For his career, the Giants right-hander is 11-3 in 16 total starts with an even 100 strikeouts as the Diamondbacks are hitting .214 off him with 78 hits over 402 batters faced total. Cueto looks to go 3-0 today in his 8th start of the year but has fared better on the road than at home as the opposition is hitting slightly better against him.

Taylor Clarke will get the nod today in the series finale in his 2nd start of the year, as he has come out of the bullpen 7 times already. He is 1-0 with a 2.33 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings this year and faces the Giants for the first time since last season. The 27-year-old right-hander was 5-5 in 23 games (15 starts) in his rookie campaign which included going 1-2 in 3 starts against the Giants. San Francisco hit .347 off him while striking out 8 times over an 11 inning span while having a 9.00 ERA and being walked 6 times.

First pitch is at 1:10 pm
