Cueto ready for 2nd start of season

Updated: Jul 30

Johnny Cueto took a no-decision on Opening Day against the Dodgers, but tonight in front of his own cutouts he should be ready to roll. The fans of course are cardboard cutouts due to COVID-19 but Cueto will have familiar crowd noise rather than the noise at Chavez Ravine. He pitched 4 innings of 1 run ball and allowed 5 hits while striking out 3 batters and walking 1 batter. Tonight he takes on another NL West rival, San Diego Padres for the16th time of his career. Cueto will look for his 9th career win against the Friars, today he faces them for the first time since 2017. He went 1-0 (all Giants wins) in 3 starts that year with 14 strikeouts and a 5.06 ERA.

San Diego Padres manager Jayce Tingler will send out Chris Paddack to face the Giants for the first time this season. Paddack faced the Giants 3 times last year during his rookie season and went 1-0 with a 2.65 ERA. San Francisco hit .213 off the 24-year-old right-hander but he had 21 strikeouts in just 17 innings of work. He is 1-0 so far on the season with his win coming against Madison Bumgarner and the Arizona Diamondbacks on Opening Day.

First pitch is at 6:45 pm
