Cueto back on bump after rough last outing

Johnny Cueto is making great progress after being out with Tommy John surgery. He is ahead of schedule as Giants skipper Gabe Kapler watches close to tab him as the Opening Day starter. Cueto took the loss in his last outing against the Dodgers, he went 2.2 innings and allowed 4 runs off 3 hits with a walk and strikeout apiece. He faced the Cubs in 2018 just before his season was shortened due to spraining his pitching elbow. San Francisco held on to win 5-4 but Cueto pitched only 5 innings, allowing 3 runs off 6 hits with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks. He has made 26 appearances against the Cubs for his career (all starts) and is 9-9 with 129 strikeouts in 161 innings while having a 3.41 ERA.

Tyler Chatwood will toe the rubber today for his 3rd Spring start and is still looking for his first win. Manager David Ross hopes Chatwood can solidify himself to be the 5th starter this year as he was 5-3 last year in 38 games (5 starts) with a 3.76 ERA. The former 2nd round pick of the 2008 June Amateur Draft has struck out 7 of the first 23 batters he has faced this Spring with 2 walks and a 3.00 ERA in just 6 innings. The 30-year-old righty took on the Giants twice last year and only to pitch 4 innings of work, allowing 2 walks and struck out 5 batters with 3 earned runs. He has faced his former NL West foe 20 times (18 starts) and has an ERA of 3.19 with a 7-4 record in his career.

First pitch is at 1:05pm
