The San Francisco Giants almost pulled off another stunning comeback and at the league's most hitter-friendly ballpark. Unfortunately, they fell short and took the loss in game one of a four-game series against the Rockies. They trailed 1-0 going into the top of the 3rd before Chadwick Tromp hit his 2nd home run of the year a day after hitting his first career bomb. Steven Duggar was barely hit by a pitch and Mike Yastrzemski launched his 3rd home run of the year to the left-field bleachers and the Giants took a 3-1 lead, Alex Dickerson went yard for his 2nd home run of the season with a solo shot in the top of the 5th inning pushing the teams lead to 4-1. They trailed again in the top of the 9th 7-4 but Wilmer Flores doubled and Brandon Crawford singled him to rd and up came Tromp. He hit a sacrifice fly to score Flores and Pablo Sandoval pinch-hit for Steven Duggar. The Panda reached on an error as Crawford scored and the Giants were within a run but their rally came up short in the defeat. Starter Johnny Cueto went just 5 innings and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and struck out 4 while walking 2 batters.
The Colorado Rockies stayed hot and improved to 7-2 and as one of the best teams in the league right now. They struck first in the bottom of the 1st inning when their hottest hitter Daniel Murphy singled in Trevor Story who opened the inning wi\th a single and Charlie Blackmon reached on an error. Charlie Blackmon came up in the bottom of the 6th and singled and Nolan Arenado did what he does best against the Giants, hit his 1st home run of the year to pull the Giants lead to 1 run. Ryan McMahon tripled and new Rockie and former Dodter Matt Kemp singled him in to tie the game at 4-4. Chris Owings kept the inning going with a single and after a Tony Wolters strikeout, David Dahl singled to ridht field to score Kemp. Chris Owings also ascored on a throwing error by Alex Dickerson and the Rockies took a 6-4 lead. Oeings later hit a solo shot of his own in the bottom of the 8th to push the clubs lead to 3 runs before the Giants came up in the top of the 9th. Rockies starter Chi Chi Gonzalez was done after 3 innings, he allowed 3 runs off 5 hits with 3 strileouts and 1 walked batter. Every batter in the Rockies lineup had 1 hit, except for Owings who had 2 on the evening.
