Cats pound out 16 hits in close game

The Sacramento Rivercats showed off their bats in a close game this afternoon at Raley Field. Trailing 7-0 going into the bottom of the 2nd, the Rivercats didn't take long to make it a 2 run game. Levi Michael hit a 3-run home run as Mike Gerber and Anthony Garcia hit back to back RBI doubles. Abitatal Avelino finished with a 4-6 day with 1 RBI and Ryan Howard had a 4-5 day at the plate with a run scored. Gerber and Henry Ramos collected 2 hits for themselves as the Cats rallied in the bottom of the 9th but Gerber was rung up on strikes to end the game with Howard and Avelino stranded on base.

Dereck Rodriguez pitched just 1.2 innings allowing 3 hits and 7 runs (1 earned) along with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts for a no decision. In his last outing he got the win vs the Grizzlies after pitching 6 innings allowing 2 runs off 6 hits with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk. He also led the team with 3 hits in the game, all doubles with 1 RBI.

The Rivercats are currently 1 game back of the Fresno Grizzlies and in 3rd place in the PCL Pacific Division standings at 22-24.
