Cahill to make Giants debut

Trevor Cahill will make the start today for the Giants, and make his debut for them. Cahill signed a minor league deal with San Francisco in February and was 0-0 in 3 games during Spring Training including 1 start. He threw only 4 1/3 innings with 8 strikeouts and walked 1 batter with an even 0.00 ERA. The 32 year old right hander was with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim last season, going 4-9 in 12 starts with 77 strikeouts and a 5.98 ERA. Cahill has faced the Astros 13 times (6 starts) going 3-2 in his career with a 4.75 ERA including going 1-1 in 7 games last year. He is replacing injured pitcher Jeff Samardzija who went on the injured list last week with shoulder impingement.

Zack Greinke will take the mound for the Astros today in hopes of a series victory. Greinke is winless through 3 starts to start the 2020 season with 11 strikeouts in 15 innings. Last season the 36 year old righty was 8-1 in 10 starts, with a 3.02 ERA after coming to Houston at the trade deadline. He was with Arizona prior to the trade and was 10-4 with 117 strikeouts in 23 starts. Today he takes on a Giants team in which he is 13-3 in 20 career starts with his last one coming June 29, 2019. He went 7 shutout innings and allowed 5 hits with 6 strikeouts in Arizona's 4-3 win.

First pitch is at 4:10 pm
