Cahill ready for first Spring start with Giants

Trevor Cahill will take the mound today for the Giants, not out of the bullpen but making the start. It is his first start for his new club but has seen action so far out of the bullpen. Cahill signed a minor league deal with the Giants at the end of February. Through 2 games this Spring, the Oceanside native hasn't allowed an earned run with 2 walks in 1.2 innings including 3 strikeouts. Cahill was 4-9 last season in 37 games (11 starts) with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, he had 81 strikeouts in 102.1 innings with a 5.98 ERA. Today he takes on the White Sox, a team in which he has faced 16 times and has made 10 starts against them, He is 2-3 with a 4.12 ERA totaling 41 strikeouts in 67.2 innings.

Longtime Astros starter Dallas Keuchel will make his 2nd start of the Spring for Chicago today. He lost his last start against the Padres, going 4 innings and allowed 1 run off 6 hits with just 1 walk issued. Keuchel signed with the White Sox at the end of December after spending the first 7 years of his career with the Astros then spent last season with the Braves. He was only with the Braves from the beginning of June to the end of the season and went 8-8 in 19 starts with a 3.75 ERA totaling 91 strikeouts in 112.2 innings. Keuchel is 0-2 in 3 career starts against the Giants with 12 strikeouts in 17 innings and a 3.71 ERA. He faced them last season just once, taking the loss going 6 innings with 2 runs allowed (3 earned) off 6 hits including 4 strikeouts and issued 2 walks.
