Cahill K's 5 in 3 innings as Giants stomp Sox

Trevor Cahill made his first Spring Training start for the Giants today and looked sharp. He struck out 5 batters in 3 shutout innings, he didn't even allow a baserunner. After Brandon Crawford walked with 1 out in the bottom of the 3rd, Evan Longoria singled him to 3rd and Brandon Bett singled in Crawford to make it a 1-0 game. Buster Posey followed Belt with an RBI single of his own to plate Longoria. Jaylin Davis added an RBI ground rule double in the bottom of the 4th to push the clubs lead to 3-1 and Brandon Crawford singled in Davis to add on to it. Darin Ruff and Joey Bart both hit their 2nd homers of the Spring to open the bottom of the 5th inning pitting the game at 6-1. San Francisco had their lead deplete after the top of the 6th inning but Zach Green hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 6th to give the Giants an 8-7 lead. Darin Ruf added a second home run of the day in the bottom of the 8th to pad on to San Francisco's 12-7 lead. Ruf led all hitters with 3 hits on the day as 4 other Giants players had 2 each, the team finished with 18 hits total.

The Chicago White Sox batters were down as many as 6-1 and came roaring back in the top of the 6th inning. Nick Madrigal, Luis Robert, and Nomar Mazara all led the inning off with singles but Mazara's base hit scored Madrigal and pinch-runner Luis Alexander Basabe to cut the deficit to 4 runs. Andrew Vaughn roped a single to right field to score Basabe and James McCann tripled to make it a 1-run game but Zack Collins doubled in McCann to tie the game at 6-6. Cheslor Cuthbert singled in the go-ahead run as the White Sox rallied all the way from down 6-1. Mazara had 2 of the teams 9 hits on the afternoon as Chicago was they left just 2 runners in scoring position, going 6-9 in that area. Starter Dallas Keuchel was roughed up going 3.2 innings and allowed 4 runs off 8 hits with 3 strikeouts and a walked batter.

San Francisco hosts Seattle tomorrow with Jeff Samardzija going against Justus Sheffield.
