Hunter Bishop played against his brother Braden Bishop today and both players each had a base hit on the day. Hunter was drafted by the Giants with their first overall pick last year, 10th overall out of Arizona State. Tyler Beede threw 2 innings of no hit and scoreless ball while giving up a walk and striking out 2 batters. San Francisco trailed 4-2 in the top of the 6th when Joe McCarthy walked with 1 out and stole second base. He took third base on an arrant throw by catcher Joseph Odom. Rob Brantly doubled in McCarthy to bring the game to 4-3. An inning later, Hunter Bishop singled and stole second base and he took third on another bad throw by catcher Joseph Odom. Cristhian Adames doubled in Bishop and the game was tied at 4-4, Adames singled with 1 out in the top of the 9th to spark a rally. After Jamie Westbrook flew out. both Jacob Gonzalez and Brandon Guyer were hit by pitches to load the bases. Sean Roby was walked to bring in Adames and the San Francisco Giants took a 5-4 lead. The Giants were 4-14 with 11 runners left in scoring position on the day.
The Seattle Mariners believed they could inch out a win today after taking a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the 5th inning. They trailed 2-1 when Jose Siri singled Braden Bishop to third base, who led the inning off with a walk. Shed Long doubled him in to tie the game at 2-2 and then JP Crawford hit a sacrifice fly to give Seattle a 3-2 lead. Kyle Seager then sacrificed in Long to extend their lead to 4-2. The Mariners finished with 8 hits on the day, they had just one extra base hit which was Longs double in the bottom of the 5th. Starter Logan Gilbert pitched 2 innings and allowed only 1 hit with 1 strikeout in his Spring Training debut.
San Francisco will head to Surprise for its annual Spring Training World Series rematch against the Royals. Derrick Rodriguez will take the hill against Mike Montgomery. They also play a split squad later in the evening against the Rockies with Johnny Cueto making his Spring Training debut. Colorado will send out right hander Antonio Senzatelz.
