Avelino sent back to AAA, Rogers called up

The San Francisco Giants made a flurry of roster moves ahead of their 2nd game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

San Francisco sent down Abiatal Avelino back to AAA Sacramento and called up reliever Tyler Rogers and outfielder Joey Rickard. The team released Scooter Gennett upon the arrival of new infielder Mauricio Dubon and they also placed Trevor Gott on the 10 day injured list with an elbow strain.

Reliever Tyler Rogers (twin of Taylor Rogers) was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 10th round of the 2013 out of Austin Peay State University. He has appeard in 49 games for the Sacramento Rivercats going 4-2 including making 1 start. He has 55 strikeouts in 62 innings with an ERA of 4.21 and overall 2.52 in 342 minor league games collecting 419 strikeouts in that span.

Infielder Abiatal Avelino was recently called up and sent back down after a baserunning gaff in last nights game. He was 1-2 with his first career RBI but he missed a stop sign by third base coach Ron Wotus in which Avelino was tagged out at home.

Infielder Scooter Gennett will be placed on the release waivers. The Giants acquired him from the Reds at the trade deadline for cash and a player to be named. Gennett hit .234 for the Giants in 21 games with 2 homers and 4 doubles while knocking in 6 RBIs.

Trevor Gott goes on the 10 day injured list after feeling discomfort in last nights game. He was placed on the 10 day injured list on May 25 and brought back to the MLB on June 5 and since then had an ERA of 5.74 with a 5-0 record and struck out 32 batters.
