Anderson gets nod and still seeks first win

Tyler Anderson didn't think he would wait this long to get his first win in a Giants uniform would take this long. The left-hander is 0-1 in 6 games this year which includes 4 starts, he has struck out 17 batters on the year including a season-high 8 in his last start. He has pitched at least 5 innings in his last 3 starts with a 5.40 ERA. Today he will face Arizona for the 8th time as a starting pitcher and 10th overall in his career. He has a record of 2-0 with a 6.57 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 38 1/3 innings of work. He made his last start against the Diamondbacks last May while with the Rockies and went 4 innings and allowed 6 runs off 7 hits with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk for a no-decision. Arizona won 10-9 as they walked off the Rockies with a 3 run bottom of the 9th inning.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will put the University of North Carolina alum Zac Gallen on the hill tonight. Gallen was acquired by the Diamondbacks last season from the Marlins for Jazz Chrisholm, and was 3-6 combined in 15 starts. He struck out 96 batters in 80 innings with a 2.81 ERA. This year he is 0-0 in 5 starts with an ERA of 2.40 in 30 innings and 36 strikeouts against 119 batters faced. Tonight will be the first time Gallen has never faced the Giants.
